Art + Mental Health

with Rosie Galloway Smith and Alex Staniforth

Friday 17th January (6-8pm)

Visual artist Rosie Galloway Smith and inspirational speaker Alex Staniforth come together as we explore the current landscape that is mental health and visual explorations of the messiness of being human through Rosie’s work.

Alex Staniforth

Alex Staniforth is a record-breaking adventurer, inspirational keynote speaker, author and charity founder from Cheshire who is no stranger to overcoming challenges. With humility and vulnerability, Alex openly shares his own mental health journey to encourage conversations and challenge stigma. As a teenager he survived the two most significant disasters in Mount Everest history, and has also dealt with epilepsy, bullying, mental ill health and a stammer since childhood. As a keynote speaker, Alex has worked with leading global companies including Rolls-Royce Submarines, Samsung, Bank of America, FedEx and Heineken, taking his audiences on an emotional journey of resilience, courage, failure, teamwork and triumph over adversity, along with practical tools that anyone can relate to their own challenges at work and home.

Rosie Galloway-Smith

Rosie is a mixed media artist who creates paintings, drawings, sculpture, and digital pieces that explore semiotics, materiality, and fractured identity. She completed her undergraduate degree in Fine Art at University of Humberside in 1996, and the MLitt in Fine Art Painting at Glasgow School of Art in 2018, and has exhibited extensively in Cumbria and internationally. Her art uses a mixture of everyday items, found objects, and different materials to layer meaning and explore their own histories and significance. Expressing strong and ambiguous emotion is central to her work and each piece of work has a personal element.
