Artful Ways
MORE PROJECT INFORMATION: Visit the Artful Ways website
We are thrilled to be a partner for somewhere nowhere’s Artful Ways project. The premise is simple:
Go for a creativity inspired walk - tracked by an app or with a map - answering 3 questions on your way.
Create something or do something creative along the way in response to your journey - or visit a cultural landmark.
Submit your route and whatever you created to be a part of the map and exhibition.
The Studio Morland’s Artful Ways
The Studio Morland will be hosting both guided and self-guided walks as part of the Artful Ways project. You can pick up our specially designed walk maps at any time from The Big Yellow Box Of Delights outside the Studio Morland from the 25th June and go for an artful walk whenever suits you. Here’s the beautiful map which Kate designed:
Guided Walks
We offered some guided walks in July as part of our involvement in the Artful Ways project.
Here are some photos from our first guided Artful Ways walk on the 13th July - bees, botanics, storytelling, emergency poetry and medicinal cake included!
And here’s some photos of our second Artful Ways walk in July, featuring some gigantic rhubarb leaves.
Did you spot Kate in the Herald talking about our Artful Ways?
HOW TO TRACK YOUR WALK
Before you get here, and if you are able, download the app which can create a ‘gpx’ file of your route to submit to Artful Ways. Scan the QR codes below (or click on them) to find them:
After picking up your paper map from the Big Yellow Box of Delights, click start on your tracker app (found via the QR code above). At the end of the walk make sure to press SAVE on the App, and name your new GPX track. There is no rush or time limit.
WHERE SHOULD I WALK?
If you prefer you don’t need to follow the route marked on the map from the Big Yellow Box of Delights - but any route you take should be creative or artful - this could be taking in a cultural feature on your way (interpret this as you like - examples on the Artful Ways website), making art along the way, or meeting a creative practitioner. You can walk alone or in company.
ASK THESE THREE QUESTIONS DURING YOUR WALK:
1: CREATIVITY - What does creativity/culture mean to you?
2: CONNECTIVITY - Covid-19 has forced us all to reimagine ways to connect. What have you missed - and what new possibilities have opened up?
3: PLACE - How can we, collectively, and artfully, better care for our environment?
AFTER YOUR WALK:
Submit your walk to the Artful Ways Map:
- Email the GPX file from your app to: artfulways.cumbria@gmail.com and CC in thestudiomorland@gmail.com. Title the email: ‘TRACK’In the email, please add in writing:
- where you went (e.g. from A to B, via C)
- cultural features you saw or visited along the way
- your response to any or all of the questions
- if you’d like to, add an image or two from your day
Then, if you’d like, submit your piece of creative work between June 25 and August 10 by email to artfulways.cumbria@gmail.com. Please CC in thestudiomorland@gmail.com. Include:
a few sentences about your journey and what inspired you to make the piece
your creative piece in digital format: a jpeg (digital image), mp3 (audio), or mp4 (video)
your response to any or all of the three questions that you carried on your journey
a photograph taken during your journey, if you took any
your name and your home town / village / valley
