Creative Thinkers:
Creative Living (living like jazz)
With Mark Griffiths

Friday 3rd November 2023
7pm-9pm
@ The Studio Morland

This Creative Thinkers session will be an improvised exploration of creativity and the ways and attitudes in which it can enrich our living.

In conversation, songs, readings and pictures, Mark will reflect on aspects of his own influences, output and creative living –

  • In his art - music and songwriting; poetry; visual arts; performing.

  • In his direct interactions with others – direct therapeutic work with children; collaborating with others; the creativity of conversation; social and family life; learning (and unlearning) from experience, study and other people.

  • In his contracted work – ensuring strategic and operational delivery in social and therapeutic services in both statutory and charitable sectors.

This event coincides with the opening night of an exhibition of selected drawings, illustrations and cartoons taken from the notebooks Mark has kept over the years, as well as a ‘mini retrospective’ of paintings, drawings and photographs.

Artwork and copies of Mark’s most recent book GRID – an outside inside journey through Cumbria (shortlisted for the 2022 Lakeland Book of the Year Award and Wordsworth-Grasmere Prize for Literature runner-up) will be available to purchase.

ABOUT MARK:
Mark Griffiths lives in the Eden Valley. He has been ‘doing’ art, music and writing for as long as he can recall. Along the way he has collected a diverse range of identities – as a dad, grandad, art and outdoor education lecturer, youth worker, factory worker, manager and director of charities and statutory services providing therapeutic and practical support to people experiencing homelessness, sight loss and children in care. He recently retired from his therapeutic work with children who have experienced early life trauma and the carers looking after them.
