Susie Tate - Pilates and Dance
I am a Pilates teacher and dance artist living and working in the beautiful Allen Valleys' Northumberland.
Whilst training as a ballet dancer in the mid ‘90’s at the Royal Academy, London, I sustained a severe ankle injury. At this time, Pilates was relatively new in the UK, however I attended classes led by Alan Herdman http://alanherdmanpilates.co.uk/
Alan was one the first teachers to bring Pilates to the country (and from Northumberland!) I found the technique invaluable to my recovery.
In 2008, I qualified as a Pilates instructor with Body Control Pilates, London.
On moving to New Zealand in 2009, I commenced work at a Pilates studio, Westmere Pilates. As part of a team of Pilates tutors and physiotherapists, I taught specialised programmes for injury prevention, rehabilitation - including post-surgery - pre/post natal and with elite athletes and dancers, https://www.dancepilates.com/
Today, along side teaching Pilates, I work as a dance artist in the community and in health care settings including hospitals, adult and children’s hospices, with stroke survivors and people with Parkinson’s disease.
My range of work brings me into contact with experts in the fields of health, wellbeing and movement and I work closely with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists at North Cumbria Integrated Care Foundation Trust.
The breadth of knowledge and experience I gain from this interdisciplinary approach I feed into my Pilates teaching, giving classes that are informative, safe, relevant and enjoyable.
You can book to take part in my online Intermediate Pilates workshops HERE. They cost £5 per class.
