Andy Speight (Pilates)
My name is Andy Speight and I have a passion to help people to achieve better movement and balance. Whether it is overcoming aches and stiffness; improving physical performance; attaining new levels of self-awareness; reducing stress levels; achieving a greater sense of health and wellbeing or just to feel happier with who you are. I believe that Pilates will help you.
Pilates is one of the most accessible and inclusive forms of exercise that aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing. I qualified as a Physiotherapist from York St Johns University in 2009. I have worked with different patient groups with musculo-skeletal, neurological and respiratory problems. I developed an interest in Pilates through my career as a Physiotherapist. In the NHS I started leading classes for people with chronic low back and hip problems to help them improve their core strength, stability and balance. From this I began my training with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) in 2013.
I have taught Pilates to people with low back, hip and pelvic problems as well as people with neurological conditions. In addition to my work as a Physiotherapist I started my own business ‘SP8 Physio Pilates’ in 2017 teaching classes in the community around Penrith, Cumbria. My main aim is to support and work with people to ensure that they achieve their goals in a supportive, safe, welcoming and positive environment.
